Riot is going to be making some changes in 2023 in regard to the refund system. They want to streamline it across all of its IPs and well LoL has had the token system for long enough and Riot wants to improve it!

In the most recent Patch Notes for LoL Patch 13.1, Riot outlined some changes that will be made halfway through the year pertaining to skin and cosmetic refunds. The company is looking to completely remove tokens from the game, so how will players be able to refund unwanted skins now?

LoL Tokens Getting Removed In 2023

Until now players had the chance to refund skins, champions and other cosmetic comments. Players had three tokens which they could use to refund anything they got and get the value back in either RP or Blue Essence, depending on what you used to purchase the refunded item with.

This system has been in place for a long time and Riot is looking to freshen the system up and bring it up to par with all of the other games under the Riot Games banner. In the LoL Patch 13.1 Riot wrote that the entire League community will be brought to 3 tokens at the start of the year, but due to the complexity of the token refresh system they've decided to make changes to it in 2023.

[...] due to the aforementioned complexity, we’ve made the difficult decision to remove refund tokens entirely later this year in patch 13.11. This will bring the refund policy in line with our other games, removing the need to maintain an older system just for League.

So, until halfway through the year, you'll be able to use your tokens on any cosmetics you've bought by accident, or just realized you didn't like anymore. Then, starting in LoL Patch 13.11, which drops on May 31, 2023, you will have two weeks after purchase to make any returns and refunds.

Riot will reveal more details on this change in the coming months. Is this a welcomed change or did you enjoy the token systyem? Let us know in the comments below!
