LoL: These Old School Builds Take You Back To Your Childhood

Champions 17-01-2024 10:50

After all these years I still remember the good old days of LoL. With different items and even different champions, back then there is a lot of nostalgia to unpack.

With the start of season 2024 the items in League of Legends have got their second huge overhaul. The first one was the introduction of Mythic Items. Items that were so important that they defined your build and gave you the most powerful effects. The second one has happened with Season 14 and is the removal of Mythic Items. We have returned to the beloved Legendary Item system, which brought back a lot of memories.

LoL: These Builds Make You Go Back In Time

If you have played League of Legends for a long time already, chances are you know quite a few old item builds that don't work anymore. If not? Well sit down Youngling, you got a lot to learn.

Lich Bane Sion

Old Sion had an ability called “Cryptic Gaze” which blasted a single enemy, dealing 300 (+90% of ability power) magic damage and stunning for 1.5 seconds. Maxed out, it only had 8 seconds cooldown, which already sounds broken enough, but this isn't it. Combine this with his W “Death's Caress” (which works like his new W it just does a lot more magic damage) and you have an absolute nuke. This ability also dealt 300 magic damage when maxed with an 8-second cooldown.

The Trick with this build was to activate his W, wait a moment to be able to recast it, stun the enemies, autoattack them with Lich Bane and nuke them with the Shield. This combo would basically one-shot anything with less than 3000 HP and was so incredibly potent that they ended up completely reworking Sion.

Deathfire Grasp Tristana

Old Tristana had some of the largest AP scalings in the game. Her kit is basically the same nowadays, but god bless they have removed the scalings. Her Rocked Jump dealt, when maxed, 250 magic damage PLUS a ridiculous 100% of her ability power. The same goes for her E which another 100% AP scaling and her Ultimate with a Whooping 150% AP Scaling.

If you combine this with Deathfire Grasp, an old Item that gave 120 AP and the Active: Deals 15% of target champion's maximum Health in Magic Damage then amplifies all magic damage they take by 20% for 4 seconds (90 second cooldown).

You can already imagine what happened when Tristana finished this Item. Legends say that if you listen close enough, you can still hear people rage about this damage.

Six Black Cleavers

Pantheon

Back in the days in Season 3 Black Cleaver had a different Passive. On top of giving you AD and Armor Penetration, it would also have the effect of stripping the enemy of 7.5 % of their armor for 4 seconds. This could stack. Up to 4 Times. PER CLEAVER. So basically if you bought this on Pantheon or Miss Fortune back in the days you were effectively shredding around 150% of the enemies armor. Which is… a lot.

There were a lot of funny builds back in the days. Not all of them were good, but they sure were whacky. Did you know that Caitlyn had synergy with Runaans Hurricane back in the days? That's a terrifying thing. I don't even want to think back to AP Master Yi just pressing Q and annihilating an entire team.

Do you remember any funny items from back in the days?
