Do you want all the resistances?
LoL Season 13: What Champions Are Best with Jak'Sho?
Jak'Sho the Protean is an item all about growing resistances - and this makes it useful to quite a few champions. If you play a tank who can stay close to their opponents or can land poke to start combat before you are hit back, you may want to check it out.
We continue our series of guides about the new tank items with a deeper look into when you should build Jak'Sho the Protean. While Heartsteel was the item of choice for those who wanted to stack HP, Jak'Sho is about getting resistances - and getting even more for a longer fight.
The Basics: Getting Moar Resistances
First, let's go over the basics. Jak'Sho is a Mythic tank item that costs 3100 Gold and is built from the Aegis of the Legion, a Kindlegem and a Ruby Crystal. Completed, it gives the following:
- + 400 health
- + 30 armor
- + 30 magic resistance
- + 20 ability haste
- +5 armor and magic resistance for every completed legendary item
- Voidborn Resilience: for each second in combat, you get a stacking +2 bonus armor and magic resistance. At 8 stacks, the champion ascends, doing 3% of their max HP as magic damage to enemies within 700 units (down to 1% against non-champions), healing for that amount and increasing the total resistances by +15% until the end of combat.
On the whole, it is a relatively generic tank item giving a balanced suite of defensive stats. However, its true value compared to its peers is in giving you more armor and magic resistance as the game goes on and as you get into a fights, with a percentile boost to your total after you spend a few seconds in combat. Pure tanks who can stay in a fight will appreciate getting yet more resistances, but the growing defenses can also be pretty useful on champions who plan to build some damage items while remaining somewhat tanky. As long as you want to have a defensive Mythic item that helps protect against both physical and magic damage, Jak'sho is worth looking into.
Who Wants to Build Jak'Sho?
3. Melee Mages
On first sight, Jak'Sho seems to be firmly a tank item. However, the fact that it makes you tankier as the game progresses and the longer a fight goes on means that AP bruisers who plan to stay in the fight and sustain through damage can take it. Mordekaiser, Vladimir, Swain or Lillia can already be dangerous - and this item can make them even more dangerous as they are harder to delete before they take over a fight.

2. Chase Tanks
Arguably the most obvious choice: tanks who build resistances can benefit from an item that gives you more, both in absolute terms and as an extra bonus from Voidborn Resilience. Rammus and K'Sante are top choices for that, although every tank who can stick to opponents and wants to stack resistances can appreciate it.
1. Poke Tanks
Since it takes several seconds for the bonuses from Voidborn Resilience to stack, Jak'sho is ideal on champions who can land some poke and count as being in combat several seconds before they get hit back. Whether it's Maokai's saplings, Dr. Mundo's cleavers or Gragas' barrels, any sort of poke can help a champion with Jak'Sho become even harder to kill before the actual fight starts.
