MAD Lions accuse G2 of tempering. According to Dotesport's sources, this is true and the last LEC owners' meeting was about tightening the rules and penalties for non-compliance.

G2 Esports have been involved in poaching scandals before. In 2016 and 2018, they were also accused of poaching players under contract. Then it went quiet for a while - until now. According to Dotesports' sources, LEC team MAD Lions accused G2 Esports of manipulatively interfering in the competition and negatively influencing negotiations with players.

G2 is accused of tempering - what's the story?

Dotesports reports that there was a meeting of the LEC teams on 2nd and 3rd of September, attended by the CEOs of the organisations. On one of the days, MAD Lions had started a vote on whether and to what extent rules and penalties for tempering and poaching other teams should be tightened. The meeting voted 8-2 in favour. The two votes against were from G2 Esports and Team Vitality, sources stating.

The trigger for the vote? Attempts at tempering on the part of G2. The report goes on to say that neither MAD Lions nor Team Vitality wanted to comment on the topic and that G2 ignored the request.

What ultimately takes the wind out of the sails of the whole rumour is the official comment of the LEC:

"The LEC office has not received any official complaint and there is no ongoing investigation into any violation of the rules by any LEC team. Owners meetings are held regularly and the topics discussed are confidential".

Meaning: The meeting would have taken place anyway, and if there had been serious attempts at manipulation on the part of G2, MAD Lions would of course take legal action. How much there is to the rumour should therefore be clear.

The accusations from 216 an 2018, by the way, have remained just that: Accusations. A trial never took place. So be careful what you believe, or what others think they know. Just because MAD haven't yet renewed the contracts of all their players and things didn't go smoothly at G2 this year doesn't mean the latter are actively trying to manipulate the competition or "steal" players.
