Patch 12.9 is going to be an exciting one. Not only are we getting two mid-scope updates for Taliyah and Olaf, but a bunch of champion nerfs and buffs can also already be found on the PBE server.

Yuumi is getting a visual upgrade, at least a part is. For those of you who dislike her, sadly, she is not being deleted from the game yet. But there are quite a few more challenging things happening... see what we did there. Okay, but enough bad puns, time to check out what we can expect from LoL Patch 12.9.

Challenges Coming to the LoL Client in Patch 12.9

Since the beginning of Season 12 Riot has been talking about challenges. These challenges will give players a chance to show off their skill in League of Legends that is outside of the ranking system we know and love. Even ARAM players will have something to show thanks to challenges.

Riot won't release all challenges right off the bat, but they've been testing the system since November 2021 and it seems like League of Legends Patch 12.9 is going to be the date that the new system is going to go live. So you'll be able to show off your in-game victories to friends even if you lose.

Yuumi Recall Update

Yuumi is one of the most hated champions in the game and she was a pivotal pick at the 2021 League of Legends World Championship which has earned her a skin in League of Legends Patch 12.9. But we're not going to talk about EDG skins, we've done enough of that. Instead, we're going to check out what Riot is planning for this cat and her recall animation.

Until this point, players hadn't been able to witness the beauty of Yuumi's recall when she's attached to her ally. That could change in LoL Patch 12.9. Riot is making it possible for her recall to show, even when attached. Except for Battle Professor Yuumi, that desk is just way too clunky and could impair vision for her teammate.

Olaf and Taliyah Mid-Scope Updates

Both Taliyah and Olaf will be receiving some updates in the upcoming League of Legends Patch. We've already outlined the changes on the PBE server in a separate article. Just check it out if you're curious just what is going to be changing with these champions.

Earlier this year Ahri also received a mid-scope update which has revitalized her in solo queue as well as pro play and Swain got the same treatment in League of Legends Patch 12.8. Will Taliyah and Olaf also land their mid-scope updates, or will the champions continue to stay irrelevant in solo queue?

Pyke Changes in Patch 12.9

Pyke was supposed to get some adjustments in League of Legends Patch 12.8 already, but Riot took the changes off the PBE server because the balance team wanted to check out in greater detail how and what they can do with Pyke.

That's why Pyke should be receiving his adjustment in this patch. He has been tearing it up in the mid lane with his win rate spiking at almost 55%. This is in thanks to just how much gold he can accumulate thanks to his ultimate, which is why Riot has made some changes.

Pyke AbilitiesChanges on PBE
Bone Skewer (Q)
  • Mana cost increased from 55 - 70 to 78 - 90
  • Tap Q also slows target
  • Q mana refund increased from 50% to 75%
  • If Q hits a champ now refunds 75% mana
Death From Below (R)
  • No longer grants gold to Pyke again if he kills the target

When is LoL Patch 12.9 Releasing?

If you aren't on the PBE server yet, then you'll have to wait until the release of League of Legends Patch 12.9 which is going to be May 11, 2022. Until then you'll have to enjoy the new Eclipse skins before testing the upcoming High Noon Skins.
