Statikk Shiv was brought back in League of Legends Patch 13.10 when Riot decided to overhaul the entire item system for the bot lane, as well as other lanes. Now, players are building this crit item, with insane AP scaling on mages and it's gotten out of hand.

Riot is going to be nerfing this item specifically for mages in the coming weeks. Former LCS caster Phreak has already outlined what the team is looking to change on the item.

LoL: Statikk Shiv Is Too OP Currently

Right now, Statikk Shiv is way too strong. Riot did buff it a few times since it was added back into the game, but now it's become way too good on mages like LeBlanc and Riot is going to have to backtrack since it's gotten too good.

The balance team will be looking to nerf the item specifically for mages, since Statikk Shiv was intended to be an item for marksmen with AP scaling in their kits.

This could be a direct response to the way pro players are using the item. During the first LEC weekend, Fnatic mid laner Marek "Humanoid" Brázda built the item on LeBlanc, dealing 6875 damage, which made up over 30% of his total damage with the zap alone.

Therefore, Riot is scrambling to make some adjustments to the item, due to it being so strong and good on mages, as well as marksmen. Veigar has also seen an increase in play with the item, so we'll have to see what Riot does.

Whether the changes Phreak mentioned will be implemented in LoL Patch 13.13 or later is not sure yet, but we do hope that Riot will add them in as soon as possible, because these mages are getting out of hand and we all know that mage players are not allowed to have fun.
