Sources: Excel Making Major Changes to Coaching Staff After Devastating Results in the LEC Winter Split
After some devastating results in the LEC Winter Split, Excel Esports has reportedly decided to remove Joey "YoungBuck" Seltenpool and Sng "Nelson" Yi Wei from their coaching staff.
Excel Esports went through some radical changes ahead of the LEC Winter Split 2023. After the 2022 season, the organization decided to only keep their bot laner Patrik "Patrik" Jírů from the former roster and start over with some big names.
With the addition of the 2022 LEC Summer Split Champion, Odoamne, as well as some prominent players like Vetheo, Xerxe, and Targamas, many fans believed that Excel could be one of the top-performing teams this year. Unfortunately, this proved not to be the case after Excel ended in last place with a 1 win / 8 losses match record and is now out of the LEC Winter Split 2023.
Even though Excel finished last place, several of their games were very close, and it often seemed like one simple mistake was the whole reason for their loss.
Still, the results we now see from Excel are nothing near what was expected from them. Before they were eliminated from the competition, Excel's mid laner Vetheo talked about their devastating results, stating he had lost all his confidence. Also, their top laner, Andrei "Odoamne" Pascu, went on Twitter to talk about their underperformance after finishing last place.
When ending the first ever Winter Split with such dire results after investing in a roster filled with well-known names, it is clear that something has to be done behind the scenes in order to get back up again. The good thing is it can only go upward from here, right...?
Well, it looks like Excel is already making some changes ahead of the next split. According to BLIX.GG, Joey "YoungBuck" Seltenpool, and Sng "Nelson" Yi Wei will no longer be a part of the Excel coaching staff.

YoungBuck has been Excel's head coach since the end of 2019, after two years with Fnatic. Nelson, on the other hand, has only spent one split with Excel and has formerly been coaching big teams like G2 Esports and LNG Esports.
It is currently unknown if Excel Esports decides to change any of the players before the LEC Spring Split. Due to the new format in the LEC, player changes off-season will be very different than what we are used to. This is because the other main regions, like the LCS, are still mid-split and will not have any available free agents during this time.
However, we do still have some free agents in the LEC that are up for grabs. Maybe we will see the return of Upset or Nemesis?
