Which LoL Champions will Riot be releasing next? Thanks to the Champion Roadmap fans and players can know which champs are going to be added to the game next and the lineup for the next few champions looks pretty interesting with a new creature champion, mid lane mage and a mysterious Vastayan from the Freljord.
Riot releases the LoL Champion Roadmap every few months. Through the roadmap we get new hints on upcoming League of Legends champions, reworks and much more in scope of champions that Riot is working on.
There is some pretty interesting stuff happening, like more champions in 2023, as well as champion updates coming soon. Are you ready for more mid-scope updates?
LoL Champion Roadmap: How Many Champions To Expect In 2023
There is no exact number that has been revealed yet for new LoL champions, but we do believe that in 2023 we should be getting the same amount of new champions as in 2022. We think that getting four or five new champions a year seems feasible.
Riot has not confirmed this yet though and we are just speculating, but in the last few years we've received around four to five champions yearly and with the amount of Mid-Scope updates, as well as other updates happening this number seems to likely stay consistent.
LoL's New Champion: Hwei, The Ink Mid Lane Mage
A new mid lane mage is also in the works. This champion concept is nothing new though and Riot is bringing back some previous ideas that they did not manage to incorporate into a champion yet. A few years ago they wanted to create a champion that could literally draw their abilities.
While we don't know too much about this champion yet, we know that they should follow the trop of 'tortured artist' judging by the Champion Roadmap from Lexi "Lexical" Gao. Not only that, but we know that they will be drawing in bright and beautiful colours, which is quite different from their personality.
We do know that this is a male champion who is making us wonder how the abilities will work though, and if they will require Riot to make a new mechanic for them, the way they did with Sylas, or if the drawing is just a quirk while the mechanics fall under the already existing purview.
Do not be fooled about this artist, though – surely he has some tricks up his sleeve. Jhin has tolerated the existence of another artist in Ionia – at least so far...
Teemo and Lee Sin ASU
The Jax ASU has gone live in LoL Patch 13.20 and now all eyes are on Lee Sin and Teemo as the next champions to receive some upgraded art from Riot. The two champions will look much better in the game, especially Lee Sin who has had some... questionable poses with his neck.
Riot are working hard on fixing his posture, as well as how the model will look in the game. As one of the most popular junglers in the game thanks to his flashy plays, it's important to make him look good so players will want to show their friends.
Teemo is going to be much more expressive thanks to the ASU, with Riot trying to turn a decent model into an HD model. He will receive and updated outfit, as well as some more facial expressions. Oh, and he is going to be a bit bigger than before, with longer limbs and better animations.
These two ASU's should go live throughout 2024.
Skarner's VGU Concepts Revealed
There has been more information lately on the Skarner VGU. One of the biggest is that he is being moved away from Shurima and into Ixtal, where he now becomes a wielder of earth magic.
Along with the updated region and look, Skarner is also going to have some interesting changes to his abilities. No more spires! Oh, and his ultimate has been teased to be AoE, meaning he can pick up multiple targets.
Along with that, there is more information on his kit. With his move to Ixtal, Skarner is also being turned into an earth-rune scorpion and away from the crystals. This means he will have almost earth-bending abilities from Avatar: The Last Airbender which is pretty cool.
He will be able to rip out whole boulders from the map and use those boulders as ammunition to whip against enemies, dealing damage, while another ability is set to create a shockwave by jumping up and down. His final ability that was shown will be a dash which even lets him move through walls, similar to Sion ultimate.
Riot have announced that the Skarner VGU will release in early 2024. There is still a lot of work to be done on his kit, so it is impossible to tell if that is set in stone or just an estimate.
New Creature Champion Revealed
A new creature champion was also revealed in the October 2023 Champion Roadmap. This is going to be a young dragon who is currently still in his egg. He will likely have abilities related to fire in some form of way and go more the traditional dragon route unlike Aurelion Sol who is a literal space dragon who creates new universes.
This champion will be a cute creature champion, unlike Naafiri and they will be pretty young... but still very big because apparently dragons are already huge when they are born. Makes sense though, have you seen how large dragons are?
The champion should be released in early 2024 after the Ink Mage. Which position he will be, has not been revealed yet, but a jungler or top laner would be pretty cool, right?
New Vastaya Champion Teased
There isn't much revealed yet, but we are also going to be getting a new Vastaya in League of Legends. The champion is supposed to live somewhere in the Freljord and wil be a solo lane champion. She will be a female champion, but other than that there are no real spoilers for her yet.
She could be the rumoured huntress Freljord champion though. It would make sense, since this Vastaya is supposed to be someone who lives in an alpine forest in the Freljord, meaning she would have to hunt. She will likely be released in 2024 but we have to wait for more information from Riot.
New Freljordian Champion Rumoured
Riot is also going to be making a champion from the Freljord, according to some leaks and rumours. This would be, most likely, a top lane champion and a huntress.
We also know that another champion will be an adorable marksman, who is currently in the process of hatching. We are excited to find out more about them – are you too?
