LoL: Skarner VGU: Abilities Explained
Skarner is hitting the live servers soon, so let's see what the scorpion can do!
In Patch 14.7 we are getting the updated VGU for Skarner. This includes updates to his abilities, his play style, his artwork…well basically everything.
Through VGU's, League of Legends wants to modernize beloved champions without ruining their core identities and design.
Skarner has two crab-like-claws and three large stingers on the back so we can expect lots of grabbing and pulling.

Passive - Threads of Vibration
Skarner's attacks, Shattered Earth, Upheaval, and Impale apply “Quaking” to enemies. Enemies with three stacks of Quaking take %Max HP damage over time.
This ability looks really strong, especially without an internal cooldown. Usually Skarner can proc this relatively easy in one combo, but he is always looking to stay in the fight to proc it more often.
Q - Shattered Earth/Upheaval
Skarner rips a rock out of the ground and uses it to empower his next three attacks with bonus damage, range, and attack speed. His third attack slams the rock into his target, slowing and dealing significant bonus damage, ending the effect.
Skarner may re-cast Upheaval to throw the rock as a projectile that explodes on the first enemy hit, dealing the same damage and slow, ending the effect.
His Q gives Skarner a great clearing tool in the jungle while the ranged recast can certainly help with finishing off low targets on a gank. This will be his primary damage ability with a relatively low cooldown.
W - Seismic Bastion
Skarner gains a shield and slams into the ground, releasing a shockwave that damages and slows nearby enemies.
Seismic Bastion is a great defensive tool that allows him to chase or disengage from targets.
E - Ixtal's Impact
Skarner charges forward, ignoring terrain, and grabs the first enemy champion or large monster he collides with. He may then carry them a short way, damaging and stunning them if they collide with terrain.
This will be Skarner's primary ganking tool as he can actually flank people from behind their walls.
R - Impale
Skarner impales up to three enemy champions, damaging and suppressing them. Skarner gains bonus movement speed for a short time and carries them with him until the end of the effect.
Stinging enemies is still his identity, and he can actually pull three people at once. But this is actually a skill shot now and people can flash out of the effect to dodge it making it very skill expressive for Skarner. But don't worry. You can combo this ability with his E, and then you cannot miss it.
Skarner will come out in Patch 14.7 on April 3rd.
