The 2022 Mid-Season Invitational is slowly coming to an end. The Rumble stage concluded on May 24, 2022, which leaves only the top four teams of the tournament. The PCS and VCS representatives, PSG Talon and Saigon Buffalo, will have to go home.

But there is one thing that is still a mystery for some. What does Mark Ruffalo have to do with esports, and why has his name popped up all the time throughout this tournament? So much even that it was trending on Google.

Mark Ruffalo and Saigon Buffalo

Just by reading the title, you'll probably understand just why the name Mark Ruffalo has become a constant whenever someone talked about Saigon Buffalo esports, the Vietnamese representative at this year's Mid-Season Invitational.

It has become a meme to refer to the Saigon Buffalo as Mark Ruffalo's favorite esports team. Why? Easy it rhymes. That's it. That's the meme. It is a simple rhyme that has swept the lol esports scene to such an extent, that Mark Ruffalo was even photoshopped into a team photo of Saigon Buffalo and shown on the official League of Legends stream.

Does Mark Ruffalo own a stake in Saigon Buffalo? No, not at all. He's probably never even heard of the team before, and we're pretty sure he might not even know what esports is. This is just a community meme off Reddit and Twitter that has grown into something bigger.

It is a fun joke, and even casters have played into it. Sadly, we will not be seeing more of Mark Ruffalo's favorite esports team Saigon Buffalo at the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational.

VCS Back at an International Esports Event

The VCS has had to sit out multiple international events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The country had enforced strict travel restrictions, which kept the VCS representatives out of international contention for the last two years.

MSI 2022 marks the first international event that the Vietnamese representatives got to be a part of. While GAM Esports won the VCS spring split, the team went on to compete at the Southeast Asian games, leaving the second place team Saigon Buffalo to represent their region at MSI 2022 in Busan, South Korea.

Saigon Buffalo was the youngest on-average team with everyone being born between 2002 and 2004. They showed off their aggressive play style and just why we missed the VCS in recent years. So... if Mark Ruffalo should become an esoprts fan, then the Saigon Buffalo squad would be an exciting team to cheer for in the future, right?
