Rumble Phase - May 18-22
The remaining six teams will play in a double-round-robin once more. This phase will also be played in best-of-one series. The 2 teams with the least points will be eliminted and the top four teams move onto the final phase, which is the knockout stage.
Knockout Phase - May 27-29
The final four teams will compete in the knockout stage of the tournament. Here they play a single elimination bracket and best-of-five matches. The final two teams will be going to the finals which will be played out on May 29, 2022.
RNG Is MSI Champion
In a finale that lasted 5 rounds, RNG managed to defeat T1. While RNG dominated in the first and third round, T1 did so in the second and fourth. Unfortunately, T1's draft in the final round as well as their bans just set up the win for RNG. T1 not banning Gwen and letting RNG draft her. aswell as Faker picking Ahri despite her low win rate, knowing that RNG would pick Lissandra... it was a mess.
Which Teams Will Compete at the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational.
MSI usually encompasses the top teams of every single region. Last year, Riot also took out the play-in stage of the event, meaning every single team from every region got to show off their stuff. There were quite a few exciting match-ups like DAMWON KIA against DetonatioN FocusMe.
The 2022 Mid-Season invitational should invite all winners from the various League of Legends regions once more. Hopefully we will finally get to see the VCS compete at an international tournament again.
Region | Team | Regular Split Record |
LPL | RNG | 12-4 |
LCK | T1 | 18-0 |
LEC | G2 | 11-7 |
LCS | Evil Genius | 10-9 |
LJL | DetonatioN FocusMe | 19-2 |
CBLoL | Red Canids | 11-7 |
LLA | Team Aze | 10-5 |
TCL | fastPay Wildcats | 14-4 |
PCS | PSG Talon | 16-2 |
LCL | N/A | N/A |
LCO | ORER | 11-10 |
VCS | Saigon Buffalo | 6-6 |
LCL To Miss MSI 2022
The LCL was unable to play out their 2022 Spring Split and will therefore not send a representative to the 2022 Mid-Season Invitational. This doesn't come as a with the current political situation in the world and all the sanctions being put on Russia and restrictions teams from the region face.
LPL To Play Remotely At MSI 2022
The LPL representative will have to stay home for this year's Mid-Season Invitational. Thanks to the region's close proximity to Korea, though, they'll be able to compete either from their team facility or the LPL Arena in Shanghai, China. So we will still get to see the LPL representative, but not in-person at this year's event due to strict COVID-19 regulations when re-entering China and a tight Summer schedule due to the Asia Games and Worlds.
Which Patch is the MSI Patch?
The 2022 Mid-Season Invitational will be played on League of Legends Patch 12.8. Both Patch 12.7 and Patch 12.8 have been working towards the big event with multiple high elo and pro-play oriented changes.
The next Patch 12.9 will be geared towards solo queue once more with the 2022 World Championship starting in October.
Will Renata Glasc and Zeri be Disabled?
Last year, both Gwen and Viego were disabled for the Mid-Season Invitational, due to the New Champions and VGUs must be enabled for playoffs in all four of the top regions in order to be playable at the next international tournament policy. Zeri and Renata Glasc were released pretty early in the year, so we do think that they’ll be playable during the event.
Zeri has been pretty popular in pro play. She has seen play in all regions and on multiple lanes as well, making her a pretty cool pick to see on the international stage as well.
Where Will MSI 2022 Take Place?
The 2022 Mid-Season Invitational will be held in Busan, South Korea. In a recent stream the T1 CEO Joe Marsh was talking to LS and accidentally revealed the location of the event.
“Hopefully, I’m in Busan, because they’re coming during MSI… I’m hoping I’m in Busan”.
This has been confirmed by Riot Games as well through their Twitter. This is the first time the country is hosting MSI and the first esports event since the World Championship in 2018.
