MSI 2023: G2 vs. Gen.G Will Be A First For Chovy
MSI 2023 just concluded the Play-In Stage and will move onto the Bracket Stage with the top eight teams from all around the world competing in a double-elimination bracket. Who is going to take it all home?
The brackets are set, the teams have been chosen and it looks like an interesting battle between Europe and South Korea. Gen.G will have to face off against G2 Esports in their first round, while T1 was chosen to play against the LEC first seed, the MAD Lions. But one interesting fact has been revealed about Gen.G's young mid laner leading up to the Bracket Stage.
MSI 2023: Chovy Will Play Against Non-Korean Mid For First Time In International Series
Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon is one of the best mid laners in the world right now. He's shown his laning prowess and teamfight abilities year-in and year-out. In 2023 this has paid off with a commanding victory over the LCK's legacy team, T1, earning Gen.G the first seed for South Korea at MSI 2023.

Chovy has participated in multiple international tournaments and events, but MSI 2023 will mark a special event, with this being the first international best-of series in which Chovy will face a mid laner that isn't from South Korea (excluding any play-in events).
Just look at his previous record at international events as revealed on Reddit:
- Worlds 2019 Quarterfinals
- Griffin vs. Invictus Gaming - Chovy vs. Rookie
- Worlds 2020 Quarterfinals
- DRX vs. Damwon Gaming - Chovy vs. ShowMaker
- Worlds 2021 Quarterfinals
- Hanwha Life Esports vs. T1 - Chovy vs. Faker
- Worlds 2022 Quarterfinals
- Gen.G vs. DWG KIA - Chovy vs. ShowMaker
- Worlds 2022 Semifinals
- Gen.G vs. T1 - Chovy vs. Faker
Chovy facing off against none other than Rasmus "Caps" Borregaard Winther, means that the mid laner will have to beat a non-Korean mid laner for the first time. Both players are known for their mechanics and game sense so it'll be interesting to see just who is going to come out on top.
Gen.G will face off against G2 Esports on May 9, 2023 with the game starting at 2:00 pm CEST/8:00 am ET. Will Caps be picking his infamous Nautilus mid or are we going to be getting control mage vs. control mage in the mid lane?
