Rogue broke tradition and secured their first regular season win against G2 Esports, ending the first half of the season with a perfect 9-0. Meanwhile, Fnatic's loss to Excel Esports leaves them and G2 at 6-3, just one win ahead of a big 5-4 group

The first half of the spring split ended on Saturday with a showdown between the yet-undefeated Rogue and one of the main contenders, G2 Esports. The rest of the games looked one-sided on paper, but it would not be a LEC season if we didn’t see some huge upsets.

Who Fed Yasuo?

The opening game gave us SK Gaming and Misfits Gaming. The German organization started well, getting three early kills on Jean "Jezu" Massol’s Jinx. 17 minutes into the game, however, it all turned around and Vincent "Vetheo" Berrié’s Yasuo took over the teamfight with a quadra kill. Misfits got the lead and never looked back, overpowering SK in every teamfight and winning the game.

MAD Lions Struggle against BDS

If MAD Lions fans expected an easy win over Team BDS, they were sadly disappointed. The Lions looked good in the opening minutes but as the game went on, BDS' aggression saw them win several fights and get the first Baron. The same aggression, however, led them to overcommit to kill the MAD ADC only to lose the teamfight and let MAD back in the game. It took some 45 minutes, but eventually the Lions got the win.

Heartbreak for Astralis

We had expected the recently on-form Team Vitality to have an easy time against Astralis, but it was anything but. In fact, the underdogs were very coordinated, targeting the top lane and amassing a 4K gold lead at 15 minutes. They seemed fully in control twelve minutes later as they went for a 5v4 Baron and Oskar "Selfmade” Boderek saved his team by stealing the objective. This gave Vitality a chance to scale and 35 minutes in they got a good engage and aced Astralis to secure the victory.

Excel Trip up Fnatic

It was a pretty rough week for Excel Esports - Rogue on Friday and Fnatic on Saturday - but this time, the underdogs looked a lot better. They inched ahead of their opponents after a bloody early game and 22 minutes in,engaged on a split Fnatic to get four kills and the Baron. They then went for a full court press and after routing their opponents in their own base, they got their fourth win of the season - and the first ever against Fnatic.

Undefeated Streak > G2 Curse

The evening ended with the match of the week, featuring G2 Esports and Rogue. The two teams started slowly, but over several minutes Rogue found several kills and objectives, leading by 2K gold at 15 minutes. Emil "Larssen" Larsson's Corki had secured several kills and came up clutch 21 minutes in as G2 engaged on Rogue only to have their deleted by a Corki package. Rogue secured the Baron and turned on the heat, winning the game in less than 25 minutes to win their first regular season win against G2.
