Everybody knows them, everybody encounters them and everybody hates them, but most of us have at least one – smurfs. And for some people, there are way too many currently in the game.

A thread about them on Reddit has gone viral, as it seems to be the case, that the author found the right words and his views are shared by a lot of members of the community.

Players Frustrated With Smurfs - A Viral Reddit Thread

The user Wilston_Jacobo describes his experiences with smurfs in his recent games and shares his thoughts and views about it. He isn't very happy, to say the least. Especially, two types of smurfs enraged him:

  • Type 1- the really toxic player, "who's perma typing (hence why they just bought a new account)"
  • Type 2 - the high elo player, "who stomps his lane"

In his opinion, both types of smurfs are bad for the overall state of the game and the LoL experience. Also, he asks, why accounts like this are even allowed to play ranked games at all. Most of them wouldn't even have a single normal game in their history before entering the ranked mode.

His Idea to solve the problem? Force accounts to play at least 10 normal games every month for three months, to be able to queue for ranked games for the first time, even though, he stated that this would fix the problem only slightly.

In the comment section, many players also share their experiences with smurfs and present their ideas on how to fix this situation.

Smurfs - An Old Problem

The problem with smurfs is as old as online multiplayer games itself, and there was rarely a true solution to this problem. Cause most of the time it isn't even in the best interest of the game developers themselves, more active accounts mean more "active players". But of course smurfs are a problem for the community.

Especially when a game loses other active players, or even worse - newer players due to them getting matched with smurfs – thus losing all the time. In the worst case, a game is losing active players due to the problem, and can't get new players due to the same problem. Only the future can tell on how League of Legends will be effected by this situation.
