When is the game coming!
LoL: Gameplay of Project L Shown in New Teaser
A new trailer for Project L, the upcoming League of Legends based fighting game is going to be insane. Riot just revealed new information on the game, champions and even dove deeper into the mechanics and thoughts behind them.
So let's quickly go over everything we learned and whether the champion pool has expanded or if we still have to guess which champions we are going to get to play when the game finally releases. Wait... do we have a release date now as well?
Project L: What To Expect From Combat System
In the most recent trailer for Project L Shaun 'Unconkable' Rivera, game director and gameplay design lead for the fighting game, went over some of the key mechanics.
In the video he once again reiterated that this is supposed to be a game that should be fun for novice players, as well as have a high skill ceiling for experienced fighting game enthusiasts.
Our dream is making sure our champions have fast, powerful abilities, look really sick while doing them, and are even more powerful when paired with flexible systems.
Movement System in Project L
The Project L team wants to create dynamic gameplay, which they've done by implementing various movement systems in the game. Champions won't just walk and dash, but they can also add in different types of dashes and jumps into their combos.

Some champions will also have their own mobility options, just like in League of Legends. For example, Ekko is able to turn back time and can dash back to a previous position to get out of a sticky situation in a fight.
Tag Team Assist-Based Fighting System
Originally, Project L was meant to be a 1-vs-1 fighting game, as revealed in the trailer, but the developers changed course around two-years ago and decided to make it a tag team fighter instead. So let's go over some of the mechanics introduced in the most recent Project L showcase.
Assist Actions
This is the most basic action you can do with your team. Basically you can call upon your assist champion to come and help you. You've got two assist actions you can perform from off-screen.
You can also hold the button to get a charged assist which will be a bit stronger, at least from what we've seen in the video footage.
Handshake Tag
With the Handshake Tag you'll be able to switch between characters, as long as they are both on screen. You can combine this with the aforementioned Assist Actions to make some incredible combo plays with both of your champions.
Dynamic Save
Finally, we get to the Dynamic Save which is the game's combo breaker. You will have your Dynamic save from the start of the game and can be used to try and save your main champion, by calling upon your assist champ.
If this works then you can get out of a combo and fight back, but you have to watch out, because enemy teams can counter this as well with a combo of their own. So it's important to time a dynamic save.
This is all the information regarding the fighting system we got in the latest update, but we've also been gifted a lot of video footage of the gameplay. Even Illaoi, who was introduced in the summer, got a small spotlight in the latest video.
State of Project L: Release Date
No release date has been revealed yet, but the game is looking more and more complete. Sure, we still only know of the same six champions that will be part of the game, but it seems like this game is becoming more of a reality with every moment, so we could see it released in late 2023. But that's just speculation for now.
