Esports Charts have revealed their numbers for the year 2022 and it is clear which esports competition was the most popular, both in time watched, as well as peak viewership. The League of Legends World Championship reigns supreme above all other esports in 2022 as well.

How many viewers more did the tournament have compared to its competition and are there any other League of Legends tournaments amongst the most popular?

LoL Worlds 2022: More Viewers Than Any Other Tournament

Riot sure knows how to put on a show, right? With the League of Legends World Championship, the esports team managed to rake in another year of insane viewership numbers, as well as get people hooked on the biggest tournament of the year, the League of Legends World Championship.

According to esports charts, the finals on November 5, 2022 raked in a peak of over 5-million. Yes, over 5-million viewers tuned in at the same time during the finals. This is incredible when thinking of where and at what time for some regions the finals took place...

In terms of peak viewers, the second placed event which was a mobile game event from Indonesia, the MPL Indonesia Season 9, managed a total of 2.8-million peak viewers.

The 2022 Mid-Season Invitational had a peak of 2.19-million viewers earning a fifth place on the scale. This is still above both the Counter Strike PGL Major Antwerp and Dota 2's The International.

LoL Worlds Most Viewed Esports Event in 2022

Not only did the League of Legends World Championship have the biggest peak in terms of viewers, but it was also the most watched esports event in terms of hours watched. The World Championship had accumulated just over 143 hours of airtime and raked in a total of 142 million hours watched.

In comparison, the second most viewed event, the MPL Indonesia Season 9, had over 187 hours of airtime and managed to garner 83 million hours watched according to esports charts.

While the LoL Worlds numbers have fallen in comparison to the 2021 World Championship (19% according to esports charts) they're still heaps above the rest of the esports world. So, while some might believe that 2022 was a flop, it is far from it and it seems that LoL esports will continue to dominate even in 2023.
