Our LEC MVP for Week 5: G2 Esports' Jankos
G2 Esports look back in shape after wins against Astralis and Rogue and are now tied for fourth place in the LEC. For us, those wins highlight the importance of MVP of the week - G2 jungler Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski.
G2 Esports became the kings of the LEC Spring after an impressive lower bracket run and left their mark on the MSI as well - but their summer split performance has been sketchy at best. The team aced the opening superweek of the LEC before going on a slump and losing five out of their next six games. With a 4-5 record and a four-game losing streak after the first round robin, G2 needed its players to step up - and they did.
In week 5, they would have to face the tenacious Astralis before going one on one with the Rogue team that ended the first half of the season in first place. After their 0-2 performance last week, G2 needed to do better - and Jankos’ role in his team’s victory is why we selected him as our week’s MVP.
The Jungle King
Astralis provided a tough challenge for the spring champions. G2 got an early lead but could not snowball the game with and a key mid-game fights gave Astralis the baron and gold lead. However, G2 were able to come back in the game with clutch flanks and got several important kills before a backdoor play decided the game.
G2's jungler was even more impactful in the key fight against Rogue. He was able to predict his counterpart Kim "Malrang" Geun-seon's early movements and negate the impact of his Volibear. The early game protection of the bot lane paid dividends in the mid-game as Victor "Flakked" Lirola Tortosa on Aphelios cleaned up in the clutch Baron fight before G2 took over the game.
