How Much Does an LEC Player Earn?
Competitive League of Legends has developed quite a bit throughout the years. What started with some teams attending smaller tournaments with some money possibly to be earned by the winners, League of Legends has now turned into a massive esports scene, with some players making millions. But how much can you actually gain from playing League professionaly in Europe?
The LEC is the official first-division League of Legends tournament in Europe. In the LEC, big names like Caps, Rekkles and Perkz have come to grow, and several teams have created a big fanbase following them through every step of the competition.
With such a big fanbase, major competitions and high stakes also come with a lot of money. But how much can an LEC player earn in a year, and which lane usually makes the most?
Midlaners Earn the Most in the LEC
According to investigative journalist Brieuc "LEC Wooloo" Seeger, midlane is the highest-paid position within LEC teams, with some exceptions.
I think most of us are not surprised by the fact that midlaner are usually the highest-paid player on a roster. Midlane usually gets a lot of attention from fans as they are usually involved in more plays in a game because of their position on the map. This gives them a higher marketing value than some of the other roles in the game.
An LEC Player Earns a Minimum of 60,000€ per year.
It is hard to pinpoint exactly how much an LEC player earns because it usually varies quite a bit and is often not public knowledge. However, we have some insight into the minimum wage for an LEC player.
According to Seeger, the LEC rulebook states that the minimum wage of an LEC player is 60,000 € per year. This is around 64,000 USD.

The condition for a player in the LEC to qualify for, at least, minimum wage, is that a player must have played in at least 18 LEC games during the year. Here are the exact conditions from the LEC Rulebook:
Players on the LEC Roster of a Team must earn a minimum of €1,000 gross per month. If the Player has participated in an LEC Match during any given month, this number increases by €1,000 gross for every week the Player has played that month.
If a Player has participated in 18 or more Regular Season Matches for the same Team during a single Season, the Player must earn a total of at least €60,000 gross during that Season.
Now, players can, of course, earn a way higher amount and the number is expected to vary quite a bit. However, we now know that a player will make at least 60,000 € per year.
