Riot just announced their upcoming VFX update for one of their champions and this time around its none other than our queen Janna. She's going to be getting quite a face lift. Yes, she floats over the rift like an elegant fairy, but her model is quite outdated and the textures of her abilities don't feel or look as rewarding as they should. So, Riot is fixing that in the next PBE cycle.

Riot Pehrek, Quality Assurance Engineer from Riot's Champions Team informed the community of the VFX update, going into detail of what they will be updating and changing on the champion. This update will be similar to the one Nami received earlier this year or the one Shaco got as well. So expect the outdated effects of her abilities to be updated.

  • Now this is where you'll want a new monitor so you can truly appreciate the VFX improvements on Janna's spells

All Planned Changes in Janna's VFX Update

For all of you who aren't sure what VFX (visual effects) update is, then we will quickly go over that as well. Basically it's one of the smallest update packages Riot ships for their champions. These types of updates only pertain to effects and textures and sometimes also the hitbox of a champion or their ability.

So a visual update is far from a VGU which stands for visual and gameplay update. There a champion's whole appearance and kit get overworked, kind of like what happened with Udyr in the most recent of patches. Sad that we won't get to see new Udyr at the 2022 League of Legends World Championship.

Okay, enough blabla, it's not time to check out which Janna skins will be affected in this VFX update:

  • Base Janna: Complete Overhaul
  • Tempest Janna: Same as base
  • Hextech Janna: Complete Overhaul
  • Frost Queen Janna: Complete Overhaul
  • Victorious Janna: Complete Overhaul
  • Forecast Janna: Complete Overhaul
  • Fnatic Janna: Same as base, but with a custom W
  • Star Guardian Janna: Adding impact effect to Q and Tornado small update, new healing VFX on R
  • Sacred Sword Janna: Adding impact effect to Q and Tornado small update, new healing VFX on R

As you guys can see there is something changing on every single one of Janna's many skins. The older the skin the more Riot is going to adjust and fix, but also newer skins like the Battle Queen Janna skin or the newest Steel Valkyries skin are getting a slight overhaul to some abilities.

While Elise's VFX Update didn't go as planned, we know that the other ones Riot has released recently have been pretty well-received. Seriously, nothing is more aggravating than getting hit by indistinguishable abilities, especially when you can't even tell what it is and whether it'll actually hit you. So, you guys should get excited for this VFX update!

When Will The Janna Update Go Live?

Riot is planning to release this VFX update in LoL Patch 12.19, which means it'll be on the PBE server after Patch 12.18 goes live. So, if you've got access to the PBE then you can test out the new ability particles if you want. Otherwise, you'll have to wait until Patch 12.19 goes live.

One thing we do have to complain about is that this VFX update could have come a bit earlier... seriously, why release it only now when we could have had it ready for the 2022 League of Legends World Championship? Maybe Janna will get some play time this time around? But that is life so we will just have to deal, right?
