Finally.
Riot Is Making Big Changes to Yuumi
Since this kitten entered the Rift, plenty of League of Legends players have grown to loathe her. After a year, Yuumi has become one of the most hated champions in the game and has been a struggle to face both in Solo Queue and the professional League of Legends scene. Now it looks like Riot Games is finally planning a rework to do some impactful changes to the infamous cat for next year.
Yuumi has caused much frustration in Solo Queue games and pro play. For example, during Worlds 2022, Yuumi became the most-banned champion throughout the competition with a whopping 85% Ban Rate, according to gol.gg.
The cat also had a 100% win rate in Worlds, meaning by the off chance of someone getting their claws into this champion (8 times total in the championship), they ended up winning the game.
Looking at these stats, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that this kitten is in need of a rework, especially in the pro scene. And now it looks like we are getting an early Christmas present and finally getting what we want.
What Changes Can We Expect?
In the 12.23 Patch Notes, Riot Games explained that they want to attempt changing Yuumi in a way where players get to keep her peculiar game style while also making her less frustrating to play against.
- De-stress yourselves from the Yuumi struggles with this Charmander Plushie!
We’re giving Yuumi a decently sized nerf to temporarily address some of her more frustrating features and curbing her power in both elite and pro play. However, we definitely don’t see this as the final, long-term solution for this champion.
In Pro Play, players hyper-optimize Yuumi's untargetability, reducing counterplay for their opponents. Even though initially, this could be an aspect to change, Riot Phroxon believes that this aspect is what makes the champion so great for newer players and will therefore be looking at other ways to increase counterplay against her:
- limit her aggressive CC outputs/damage
- emphasize more defensive/enchanter outputs
- reduce scaling
- make her more dependent on her own lane's success to win games.
These changes are still under development, and Riot Games will go into closer detail once they have more information. What do you think about the upcoming changes?
