Creating digital characters might seem like a complex undertaking to some, but once you understand the individual steps involved, the process becomes less mysterious and overwhelming.

If you paid attention in art class, you might recognize the first steps in creating a new masterpiece: finding inspiration and making sketches. And this isn't just a quick sketch or two – it often involves multiple pages of rough sketches before moving on to more detailed drawings. So, let's take a closer look at how the artists approached designing the popular HEARTSTEEL skins and crafting the PARANOIA music video.

The Heartsteel series features Kayn, Ezreal, Sett, Yone, K'Sante, and Aphelios. They are the new band in the League of Legends universe and with their new song "PARANOIA," they're giving the girl group K/DA some serious competition, even though they only have one song so far.

But creating the individual skins and frames in the music video isn't as easy as it appears at first glance. It entails several steps before the final skins are crafted, and the video can commence shooting.

Typically, it commences with small sketches and doodles, providing a rough idea of the initial design concepts. Then comes the exciting part: the concept art. This involves refining the sketches to include all the important details that will later appear on the skin. And this isn't done from just one angle, but from almost every perspective! So yes, it sometimes requires a lot of drawing.

Once the concept art is complete, it's time for animation. This is like performing magic on the computer until the final result looks just like the concept art. And that's roughly how all characters and skins are created. Exciting, isn't it? But now, let's move on to the fascinating part: the music video.

Once the skins for the characters are finalized, it's time to dive into the details. Typically, a storyboard and color script are created, outlining the sequence of each scene. Animators use these as a guide to create the individual segments, also known as frames.

After the animation for the video is complete, it just needs to be synced with the song, and the video is ready. Of course, there are some important intermediate steps, but we don't need to get into too much detail, right? Let's just turn on the song and jump straight into the next LoL match.

That was a little behind-the-scenes glimpse of League of Legends. Have you ever created a concept art of a League of Legends character? Feel free to share it with us in the comments.
